The Death of Play

I was at an artist teacher seminar on the subject of play at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art on Saturday. A mixed bag of workshops and presentations ensued, followed by a relatively forced and awkward group ‘drawing’ session. At one point during a discussion of the unique value of play the question was raised “How can we curricularize this?”

The horror!

I mentioned this to a colleague at work yesterday, to which she said “Wow, what a great way to kill play.”

“Exactly”, I said “But is that any different to what grades do to creativity?”
