on second thoughts - quote removed: "The painter who draws by practice and by the eye, without the guide of reason, is like the mirror, which reflects all the objects which are placed before it and knows not that they exist." -Leonardo da Vinci
Artist and lecturer interested in contemporary art practice, philosophy and teaching. Thanks especially to Peter McCaughey for encouraging me to start this blog and Lesley Punton, without whom I would never have continued. Thanks also to Donald Brook whose work on representation and cultural evolution continues to lead me to significant new insights about the nature of mind and imagination.

Wittgenstein was more succinct: "Don't think: Look!"
... or better still: look AND think.
like the work, believe the quote superfluous.
Superfluous I can live with - detrimental I'd prefer to avoid.
Hi again Anonymous,
on second thoughts - quote removed:
"The painter who draws by practice and by the eye,
without the guide of reason, is like the mirror,
which reflects all the objects which are placed
before it and knows not that they exist."
